PH Welcomes France Decision on Travel Alert

MANILA, Philippines - The government has welcomed the decision of France to tone down its travel advisory for the Philippines and stressed that security measures are in place to protect the public during the holiday season, a Palace official said Sunday. Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Abigail Valte said the government also hope the United States and four other countries that issued security alerts against the Philippines would follow the action of France."We welcome that decision because we have already said a number of times in the past that we feel that the bases for the advisory were not as solid as they should have been. We have made efforts to talk to the countries through diplomatic channels to modify or withdraw the travel advisories. And this modification by France is a welcome development to us," Valte said, over government radio.France has issued another travel advisory for the Philippines, warning its citizens about crimes during the holiday season.
