Civics Committee of Sun City: Join with the Civics Committee of Sun City-Huntley at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, to help set a new Guinness World Record by reading aloud Abraham Lincoln's impromptu speech from 1861 as he left Springfield headed to Washington, D.C. to be President.
The event is being coordinated from Springfield by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as a kick off to the national observance of the Civil War Sesquicentennial. Sun City Huntley residents are encouraged to preregister. The public can preregister online at or (847) 515-7650. Doors open at 10:15 a.m.; the reading will begin at 11 a.m. and last five minutes. Large print copies of the short speech will be distributed.
