The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department goes high-tech with the release of the City of Arlington smartphone app and mobile website. In January, Arlington officially announced the release of its one-of-a-kind application for iPhones and Androids.
"With the evolution of marketing in our industry, this app is another way we can reach our current and future customers," said Gary Packan, CPRP, assistant director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Arlington. "This technology gives us the ability to provide access to everything Parks and Recreation for people on the move."
Residents can sign up for programs and summer camps, take an audio walking tour of the Caelum Moor Environmental Artwork, or book a tee time at a city golf course. The application provides information not only on parks and recreation activities, but includes other city departments, restaurants, hotels, and more.
As the community's need for readily available and accessible information grew, the app was identified as a perfect medium to provide this information. A huge opportunity also existed for a way to connect on-the-go visitors with useful information about Arlington. The City of Arlington app provides a wealth of web pages for tourists seeking entertainment, places to stay, things to do outdoors, and more. Hundreds of thousands of people visited the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington and surrounding activities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for Super Bowl XLV. The app was being developed for residents, but the Super Bowl set the stage for a perfect launch time.
"There are so many more people connecting and using mobile technologies as a prime communication tool, if not sole communication tool," said Deputy City Manager Trey Yelverton. …
