Musee du Louvre In the beautiful setting of Paris is the Louvre - officially the most visited museum in the world. Metropolitan Museum of Art Known as the Met, this New York museum has more than two million works of art on display which are divided into 19 curatorial departments. The main building, located on the eastern edge of Central Park along Manhattan's Museum Mile, is one of the world's largest art galleries, while its small second location at The Cloisters in Upper Manhattan features medieval art. Represented in the permanent collection are works of art from classical antiquity and Ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art.
Admission is $25 with reductions for senior citizens.
Uffizi Gallery Set in the stunning city of Florence, Italy, the Uffizi Gallery is one of the oldest museums in the western world. It's most famous exhibit is The Birth of Venus by Botticelli. Entrance to the museum is 6.50 euros. In high season, particularly July, waiting times can be up to five hours so it is worth reserving a ticket in advance to reduce this time.
Museum of Egyptian Antiquities If you have an interest in ancient history then the Egyptian Museum should be a first port of call for a visit to the capital city of Cairo. The collection includes a fine selection of objects from the pre-historic era through to the Greco-Roman period, including the world-famous Egyptian death mask of Tutankhamun. Admission to the museum will cost you about pounds 7 while access to the mummy room which houses the nine recovered mummies will cost you a further pounds 10, with a reduced rate for students.
