The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) announced that John F. Helmer has been named the recipient of the 2012 Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award. The award, which consists of cash and a citation, recognizes an academic librarian who has made a contribution in library automation or management. It is jointly sponsored by four divisions of the American Library Association: the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, the Library Leadership and Management Association, and LITA. Currently, Helmer is the executive director of the Orbis Cascade Alliance.
In a separate announcement, LITA named Clifford Lynch as the recipient of the 2012 LITA/Library Hi Tech award for Outstanding Communication in Library and Information Technology. The award, sponsored by LITA and Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., consists of $1,000 and a certificate of merit. The award recognizes people or institutions for their long-term contributions in the area of library and information science technology and its application.
Currently, Lynch is an adjunct professor in the School of Information at the University of California--Berkeley (UCB). Before that, he served in the office of the president at UCB, including 10 years as director of library automation. He serves on many advisory boards. …
