MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Culture has adopted Resolution 895 calling for the posting of the sign "Honesty is the Best Policy" in public schools and offices of the Department of Education. The adoption of the Resolution is in line with the "Daang Matuwid" (Straight Path) policy of the Aquino Administration.
The authors of the Resolution say the sign "would serve as an effective medium to promote good manners and right conduct and will greatly benefit the overall personality of students to become conscientious and upright citizens." Honesty "is barely, or rarely, used now in education and in everything that is said and done," they noted. It is suggested that the saying be translated into various dialects.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC), the central personnel agency, reminds public employees to exercise honesty and genuine service at all times. It has urged government officials and employees to be truthful in filling up public documents such as the performance evaluation rating and the Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Networth.
