A UNIVERSITY has signed an agreement with Spanish banking group Santander to help finance students to research abroad.
The agreement between Cardiff Metropolitan University and Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division, will involve the launch of a scholarship and mobility support fund.
The aim is to help finance under and postgraduate students to undertake study and research in the UK and overseas.
Staff at the city university are also set to benefit from the new agreement with a number of awards guaranteed to be supported each year for the duration - a funding total of pounds 162,000 during the next three years.
Through the partnership, Santander will fund both individual scholarships to candidates resident in countries within the Santander scheme wishing to study at Cardiff Met, as well as those seeking to conduct research abroad.
The financial commitment will also support enterprise and entrepreneurship activities across the university together with specific support provided for projects undertaken within Cardiff Met's National Centre for Product Design and Development Research.
The agreement was signed by Cardiff Met's vice-chancellor Professor Antony Chapman and chairman of Santander UK, Lord Burns.
Santander Universities has now signed agreements with about 1,000 universities across Asia, America and Europe. …
