A CITY university has come up with a novel way to feed history students' imaginations - providing them with food from the period they are covering.
Liverpool Hope University is behind the appetising approach to help students remember the different eras explored in their third and final year of a history degree.
The idea is the brainchild of lecturer in modern history Dr Bryce Evans, who said bringing food into lectures was a great way to let students get their teeth into the Taste of War course.
Students on a new history course at Liverpool Hope will be "learning while they eat" thanks to a link-up with two local Tesco supermarkets.
The third year element of the course explores the central role of food in major conflicts from the Crusades right up to the current Syria crisis.
And as they study global battles for resources spanning hundreds of years the students use food as a learning aid, enjoying a different edible offering each week.
This includes eating dried fruit while learning about its introduction into Europe by Crusaders.
Studying the conquest of America the students will tuck into potato crisps while they will sample high energy cereal bars while focusing on nutritional advances in diets of those involved in combat today. …
