MARTIN M JONES made an excellent point in his letter (October 29). We have profound challenges ahead of us.

Firstly, to make the transition away from fossil fuels towards more sustainable sources. Secondly, to get our economy moving in the right direction again. These challenges need not be seen as mutually exclusive, and we can all do our part in making progress towards these objectives.
