New Year's party today:
The Elgin American Legion Post 57, 820 N. Liberty St., will host a New Year's Eve Party starting at 4 p.m. today. It is open to the public, and there is no cover charge. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass, and there will be singing and dancing to free jukebox all night. The canteen will provide barbecue pork sandwiches and a cash bar will be available. School board vacancy:
Consolidated School District 158 has an opening on its board of education due to the resignation of Michael Skala, who was elected to the McHenry County Board in November. The board will appoint someone to fill a three-month vacancy. The seat will then be up for election in April. ECC's 'Welcome Wednesdays':
Elgin Community College offers "Welcome Wednesdays" the first Wednesday of each month.
