ONCE upon a time... youngsters turned out in force to a campaign launch aimed at boosting reading.
Middlesbrough Reading Campaign was launched by Boro striker Lukas Jutkiewicz yesterday.
And families flocked to Morrisons' car park, at Berwick Hills for the launch which saw a selection of books being given out to youngsters for free.
Lukas said: "Reading is something I enjoyed doing when I was younger and it's something I've carried on into adulthood - it's a great way to unwind after training.
"Hopefully this will promote reading especially among kids."
Mum-of-four Lynne Huskinson says she strongly supports the campaign after she took part in the National Young Readers Project at Ayresome Primary School.
The 28-year-old, from Middlesbrough, said: "I was struggling with my reading and I was wanting to help the kids with theirs.
"I was a bit nervous about going on the course but it made me realise how important it is to read.
"Now at least once a day we sit down as a family and get a book out. I would encourage anybody to take part in the course as it helps you show how fun books can be to your children."
Teesside's Keith Brumpton, author of the Dino FC series, along with Boro mascot Roary the Lion and Middlesbrough Councillor Julia Rostron also turned out for the launch event. …
