MANILA, Philippines - One of the official candidates of this year's Binibining Pilipinas tilt is already generating a buzz of late, thanks largely to her showbiz pedigree.
Mariel de Leon, a 19-year-old 5'8" tall stunner, happens to be the daughter of industry veterans Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong.
De Leon's candidacy has the blessing of her famous father, who, in a recent interview with Journal Online, intimated that he gave her the green light to pursue a modeling career following her graduation from culinary school.
"Si Mariel, [sa] New Zealand nag-aral. Tumira siya sa kapatid niya, 'yung panganay ko, sa New Zealand. [Afterwards] sabi niya, 'I want to be a model! [So I said,] Go!"
The young lady has since modeled and appeared in print ads. "'Yung humahawak kay Mariel is my sister Toni," the De Leon patriarch noted.
