PRIME Minister Stephen Harper of Canada is arriving for an official visit to the Philippines on November 10-11, 2012, accompanied by Minister of International Trade Ed Fast, and Senator Tobias Enverga. He is on a three-country Asian tour that includes India, and Hong Kong. He is scheduled to meet with President Benigno S. Aquino III to discuss bilateral trade and investment, security cooperation, and regional issues.
Prime Minister Harper will meet with Philippine officials on ways to expand economic cooperation, and boost relations in defense, tourism, labor, sports, education, and agriculture. He said: "Canada's relations with the Philippines continue to grow and diversify, aided by an increasingly important Canada-Filipino community. On this trip, I look forward to exploring ways of further strengthening ties between both countries."
Philippines-Canada relations have been getting stronger, especially in the last 60 years. The Philippines is a top source of immigrants to Canada, with some 500,000 people of Filipino descent residing today in that country. …
