MANILA, Philippines - Like the fancied squads from UAAP and NCAA, teams from Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball League (MMTLBA) have also the size, depth and class.
But more than that, they have their own "godfather" willing to provide almost everything for them - shoes, bags, uniforms and others.
So expect them to give their rivals from the other leagues a run for their money as they face each other in the 1st Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championships (PSSBC).
The tournament - designed to help the "future" og Philippine basketball - opens shop on Oct. 27 at The Arena in San Juan.
Unknown the many, MMTLBA is the same league that produced past and present stars of the pro league, among them Atoy Co, Lim Eng Beng and Sunny Co of yesteryears while Rain or Shine rookie Chris Tiu, TY Tang and Joseph Yeo lead the current crop.
"The top teams in the Tiong Lian league are no more pushovers. They have produced several stars in the PBA and are now equally strong and big as the teams from UAAP and NCAA," said Hope Christian High School team manager Bernard Yang. …
