Forest Rangers' Skills Boosted

TARLAC CITY - The pro-environment and forest protection programs of the Philippine Army leadership here is being supported by soldiers, who joined the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division (7ID) in the conduct of a one-day Forest Ranger Seminar to its 60 military personnel to boost their skills in protecting the environment.

In the seminar, Major Gen. Gregorio Catapang, Jr., Commander of the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), personally launched his environment-protection crusade, initiating tree planting programs, and even challenging the elements of the New People's Army to do their share in environment preservation, and not resort to illegal logging.

"For a long time that we are in our profession as editor of a regional newspaper, we noticed that only General Catapang has launched such crusade in the Army for environmental protection, based on what we have read and seen in newspaper reports," said Arthur Cabigting, editor-in-chief of the Central Luzon Daily, a regional daily in Central Luzon.
