IEEE Educational Activities Board Releases Network Management Tutorial CD

Article excerpt

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Educational Activities Board, in cooperation with the IEEE Communications Society, has announced the release of Network Management, a CDROM tutorial.

This comprehensive, 5-hour tutorial provides practical motivations, strategies, and tactics for network management (NM) and describes network management functional areas and software architecture. It is based on the tutorial given by Manu Malek at the IEEE Operations Center in New Jersey in October 1998. In this tutorial, Malek examines centralized, hierarchical, and distributed network-management models; reviews network management standards and protocols; and identifies implementation issues and NMS selection criteria.

Malek is a member of the technical staff at Lucent Technologies, Bell Laboratories, and an adjunct professor of electrical engineering/computer science/technology management at Stevens Institute of Technology. He has more than 20 years experience in teaching, practicing, and research in telecommunication networks modeling, optimization, operations, and management. Additionally he is the author, co-author, or editor of six books and more than 50 published technical papers and/or reports. …
