Visitors to Belfast are often surprised by how much there is to see and do in the city - museum and galleries, theatres and cinemas, excellent shopping and dining facilities and a lively nightlife.

On any stopover, the Ulster Museum shouldn't be missed. With rich and fascinating collections of fine and decorative art, archaeology, ethnography, local history and natural sciences, the 'Treasure House of Ulster' offers something for everyone.

Visitors to the art galleries can enjoy a range of works by Irish painters, watercolours and drawings, Old Masters and modern international art as well as fine collections of glass, silver, ceramics, costume, textiles and jewellery. Archaeological and ethnographic displays include excavated material from prehistoric sites, the dazzling gold of the Spanish Armada wrecks and the children's favourite - the Egyptian mummy Takabuti.

Local history galleries feature an impressive display of steam engines, waterwheels and linen machinery, while Made in Belfast provides a potted history of Belfast industries of the last 100 years. Among the natural sciences displays is the popular gemstone gallery, earth's treasures and the Living Sea, which gives visitors a chance to experience an underwater adventure. Children love the Dinosaur Show, featuring the Museum's own skeleton dinosaur and animated video.
