A citizens group that opposes the proposed peaker power plant in Libertyville is hosting a public presentation Monday to dispute claims by the company seeking the facility.
Concerned Citizens for Lake County - a local environmental group composed of residents from the Libertyville, Grayslake and Mundelein areas - is holding the presentation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St.
The group formed last year to oppose Indeck Energy Services Inc.'s proposal to build a 300-megawatt plant on 17 acres in the Mallory Industrial Park. Members of the group also organized a petition drive to put an advisory referendum about the plant on the March 21 primary election ballot.
"We want to inform voters based on information," said Betsy Dietel, an organizer of the group and executive director of Liberty Prairie Conservancy.
Speakers will be Henry Henderson from the University of Illinois talking about air pollution from peaker plants. Tom Overbye, developer of a simulator that analyzes power systems, will speak about how much electrical security peaker plants provide. …
