The Little City Web site, www.artistical.org, is seeking artists with disabilities to put work on this site. The site has been up for almost two years and features the work of professional artists with developmental disabilities from Little City and other communities.
"The Web site has had 299,429 hits in the 22 months it has been available," says John Grod, manager of Video and Technology for Little City's Multi-Disciplinary Art Center. "That's an average of almost 19 hits an hour or just over 450 a day! There have been a couple of months where we have registered more than 24,000 hits!"
The Little City Web site is an award winner, having received honors from Siggraph, an organization for techies, researchers, developers, hardware manufacturers, educators, graphic designers, Web masters and other professionals in the computer industry.
Grod says the Web site has had requests for information and cyber trips into its gallery of art works from more than 60 different nations.
Art on the site includes the work of artists who have created seven galleries of various art forms. Each gallery was created by a team of artists, some with and some without developmental disabilities. The galleries include a virtual comic book, pen and ink drawings, an art game, a book, several abstracts and mixed media pieces, and other creative expressions.
"I think the most exciting thing this site has done is to help artists grow and nurture their abilities," says Grod.
