Episcopal Confirmation Ceremony Will Be Held in Catholic Church

Several Episcopal churches in Lake County usually hold a combined confirmation ceremony each year, but this year's event will occur in a very different venue.

The service, which begins today at 10:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Wauconda, marks the first time it will be held at a Roman Catholic church. In all, 57 adults, children and recent converts, will be confirmed.

"This is the first time that a church of another denomination will be used for this type of ceremony," said the Rev. Jim Bullion, of the Church of the Holy Apostles in Wauconda. "The consideration granted by the Catholic church is a clear statement of the ecumenical spirit of the Lake County area churches."

The nine Episcopal churches involved in the ceremony are all part of the Waukegan Deanery, which includes 13 churches from the lakefront to Woodstock. Permission to hold the service came about after the Deanery decided to hold the ceremony in the Wauconda area.
