The chief Japanese negotiator in Tokyo's rapprochement talks with Pyongyang yesterday said Japan's improved relations with North Korea will also help South-North Korean ties, a Foreign Affairs-Trade Ministry official said.
At a meeting with Minister Lee Joung-binn, Ambassador Kojiro Takano also promised Tokyo would try to make a positive influence on the improvement in South-North relations, the ministry official said, requesting anonymity.
``Ambassador Takano also promised to keep Korea up to date on the Japan-North Korea talks,'' he added.
Takano arrived here yesterday for a two-day visit to explain the outcome of the first round of normalization talks between Japan and North Korea held early this month in Pyongyang.
Foreign Minister Lee also explained about the proposed summit between South and North Korea in June and expressed his wish that the North Korean-Japanese talks would go well.
