The Mundelein Police Department has received the Illinois Crime Prevention Mayors Award for its participation in a recent law enforcement exposition.
The award recognizes the department's informative display at the Randhurst Police Exposition in Mount Prospect.
Officers representing crime-prevention units from more than 24 police departments attended the show, which was held in October at the Randhurst Shopping Center.
Mundelein's display focused on gangs, and included examples of confiscated gang clothing and jewelry, as well as a slide show about gang life. Officers also answered questions from passers-by.
The award was announced Nov. 20 during a luncheon in Arlington Heights. It was one of three awards handed out.
Crime prevention officer Kerry Demski presented the award to the village board at this week's meeting. After a round of applause from trustees and the audience, Mayor Marilyn Sindles thanked Demski for her hard work and dedication to her job.
