Long Grove's Royal Melbourne community could be viewed as one of the best housing values in the Northwest suburbs.

This is certainly not because of the prices of homes within the neighborhood, which range from $850,000 to more than $2 million. Rather, it's because of the breathtaking amenities available in these high-end executive-style residences.

"It would be hard to find homes like these anywhere else," says Lori Rowe, an agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate in Buffalo Grove.

Rowe says the homes were constructed by top-of-the-line builders from throughout the Chicago area. Houses are more than 3,500 square feet and several are in the range of 8,000 to 10,000 square feet. Many are of traditional design with full finished basements and open floor plans.

"Inside the homes, you can find fully equipped sports courts, high-tech home theaters, an in-home putting green, four or more car garages, sybaritic master suites and gourmet kitchens. Heating and cooling plants are energy efficient and zoned. Every system is top of the line," Rowe says.

The homes are constructed of brick, dryvit or stone with 9- to 10-foot ceilings, two-story foyers, oversized family rooms and multiple fireplaces.

Lots average from between three-quarters to 1 one acre in size and have large stands of mature trees as well as abundant professional landscaping. Many residences border the Royal Melbourne private golf course, designed by Greg Norman.

"The golf course certainly was a big attraction for our family," says resident Karen Hussey. "All my husband has to do is to walk out of our front door and he is next to the eighth green.
