Village Green Apartments can't get by with parking spaces that are more narrow than usual.
Carol Stream village trustees denied a request this week from the complex to keep parking spaces that are too narrow to comply with village codes.
The parking spaces at Village Green Apartments, 535 Thornhill Drive, are nine-feet wide. Current village codes call for spaces to be 9 1/2-feet wide.
The complex has 497 parking spaces and could stand to lose as many as 32 spaces if the width is changed, said Bradley Polak of Village Green.
Parking at the complex already is at a premium and reducing the number of spaces would squeeze residents even more, according to statements apartment managers made to plan commission members last month. Plan commissioners approved the request.
Current village codes also would require the complex to provide 735 parking spaces for its 285 apartments.
But the complex is land locked with no room to expand the parking lots, Polak said.
Village manager Greg Bielawski said he's not sure what will happen next. It's up to the apartment managers to decide what their next move will be.

The public had nothing to say about a plan to build 11 new houses where a farm now stands along Lies Road in Carol Stream.
