Former high school basketball star Ronnie Fields avoided jail Tuesday and was given another chance to complete probation for sexual abuse.
Fields was given until Nov. 25 by a DuPage County judge to complete the terms of his probation.
One of his co-defendants, Charles T. Johnson, 20, of Chicago, will spend two days in jail for violating probation.
Fields, Johnson, and Leonard Watts, 30, of Lombard, pleaded guilty last year to criminal sexual abuse.
Prosecutors said one of the men had consensual sex with a 20-year-old Forest Park woman in a Lombard apartment, but tricked her into having sex with the other two.
The woman told investigators she was not aware the two took turns replacing her partner, because it was dark in the room.
All three defendants were sentenced to two years' probation, 15 days' work for the sheriff, counseling and a $750 fine. Watts completed probation, but prosecutors said Fields and Johnson had never begun, until prosecutors asked a judge to revoke their probation last month.
Since then, Fields has worked 8 days for the DuPage County Sheriff's Police, including pushing a broom at the Family Fun Days fund-raiser for Special Olympics last month. …
