While in college, friends asked Lisa Hoover to proofread their term papers.
After attending communication classes, Hoover was a free-lance writer, did secretarial work and wrote resumes for a temporary agency.
Through all this, friends continued to ask the 28-year-old Cary women for assistance with resumes, dissertations and business letters.
That's when Hoover decided to start her own business, The Written Word.
"Our primary focus is working with people who need writing services. It's for people who want to project a professional image for a company or on a personal level," said Hoover, who operates the business from her home.
Hoover also offers research and secretarial services, proofreading and editing.
While the cost for the services vary, the price for secretarial work is about $21 an hour.
Hoover also offers free pick-up and delivery in the Cary-Grove and Crystal Lake area.
The 28-year-old business owner and two part-time employees offer a variety of other services including brochure and newsletter copywriting, syllabus construction, bulletin and announcement construction, presentations and fact verification as well as policy manuals.
The business also is equipped with fax and mailing services for quick turnaround time, according to Hoover.
