Grayslake High School officials are enjoying one of the more entertaining aspects of overseeing a building project:
They've reached the juncture where they get to pick the colored accent floor tiles, window blinds and coordinating carpet for the school's new $7.2 million athletic wing.
The addition's color scheme will be in keeping with the school's colors of dark green and white, although modern shades of teal and muted aquas and marbled light green are being thrown in for some splash.
The decor will also feature contrasting gray for the gymnasium bleachers and beige-pink tiles and paint.
Overall, the accenting will be similar to that used in the 40,000-square-foot addition that was completed at the front of the school two years ago.
The athletic wing under construction on the north side of the football stadium is scheduled to be finished next fall and will include three gyms, four classrooms, locker rooms and office space for the athletic director and district offices.
Crews are completing the lighting in the girls' locker room and are ready to begin underground utility work in the new wing's lower level, Superintendent Ray Novak told school board members Thursday. …
