Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Donald Justice will be one of the poets, authors and memoirists to appear at the College of Lake County's 14th annual Spring Reading Series.
Justice is slated for the third session in the series. Poet Debra Bruce will kick off the series at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room D100 of the college's Grayslake campus with a poetry reading and discussion.
The college has hosted about 80 writers since the spring and fall reading series began. In addition to the series, there have been three special festivals, focusing on writers from a particular area.
The most recent festivals, in 1993 and 1994, highlighted Asian and Latin American writers, said Paulette Roeske, English instructor and series coordinator.
"My goal was to make available literary, fiction and poetry writers to the college community and to Lake County," Roeske said. "There are very few opportunities in Lake County to hear poets and fiction writers who have national reputations. These are widely recognized writers who generally do not make appearances at venues which are off the beaten path."
Roeske has met many of these people through her affiliation with the Poetry Center of Chicago. …
