It's been a tough five days for Scott Steib's Lake Zurich soccer team. To start the week the Bears dropped a tough match to Libertyville, 2-0, then on Wednesday, Lake Zurich had the misfortune of putting two of their opponents shots into their own net for a 2-1 loss. The icing on the cake came Friday afternoon as highly-regarded Wheaton Warrenville South came to visit to complete both teams' participation in the Evanston tournament.
And wouldn't you know it, the goal that clinched Wheaton Warrenville's victory was scored by, well you know, Lake Zurich.
"We've been in a funk since the Glenbrook tournament," Steib said. "We played decent soccer there, and I really thought it would carry over, but so far it's not happening."
In truth, the Bears came out and challenged the Tigers with some solid play in the first 10 minutes. On offense, Shawn Struble, Matt Foster and Nick Pope all made some nice contributions in the early going as Lake Zurich was in their opponents' zone most of the …
