Roosevelt University Gets Icon to Light a Fire on New Campus

Unlike that other torch that's been in the news lately, the giant flame placed at the entrance of the new Roosevelt University campus in Schaumburg Tuesday may never be broadcast around the world or given a salute by a parade of nations.

But like the eternal torch that burns over the Olympics in Atlanta, the Roosevelt University symbol will be an everlasting symbol - of intellectual enlightenment in the Northwest suburbs, officials hope

"Our motto is dedication to the enlightenment of the human spirit," said Frank Cassell, the dean of Roosevelt's suburban campus. "It just seemed the right thing to do to symbolize what Roosevelt is all about."

It also symbolizes the transformation of Roosevelt University from a downtown institution with a suburban satellite to a school with two full-service campuses.

Administrators will begin moving into the new campus, located at the Woodfield Village Green shopping area near the intersection of Golf and Meacham roads, later this week. …
