Ready for a good hair day? Bag the shag and select something shorter, looser, easier.
At least that's what DuPage County hairstylists are saying. Hot summer hairstyles are short and soft. "It's hair that definitely moves," said Tom Bell, co-owner of Mario Tricoci Hair Salon and Day Spa in Oak Brook. "We don't use strong hair spray. You want the hair to have movement and sexiness to it."
But what if you spent the winter perfecting the long-layered shag worn by "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston? Just cut off the bottom, the flip, and you're ready to go, said Michel Botbol, artistic director for Charles Ifergan salons in Chicago, Oak Brook and Deerfield. Either that or live with the fact that you're, well, passe.
"It's a beautiful cut and people are still wearing it, but we've moved beyond that," Bell said. Botbol is less diplomatic: "The shag is definitely out."
The look of the moment is a "graduated" bob, a shorter hairstyle, which appears one length on the outside but is layered underneath - a la Sharon Stone or Linda Evangelista.
