Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night will keep postal carriers from helping a national food drive Saturday.
Employees of the Roselle, Schaumburg and Wood Dale offices will take part in the fourth annual event sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers in cooperation with the U.S. Postal Service.
Residents are asked to place non-perishable food items near their mailboxes before delivery time Saturday so carriers can transport them back to the post offices.
This is the third year Wood Dale carriers are participating in the food drive, said Susan Foster, executive vice president of Branch 4739 of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
The response from both employees and residents has been great, she said.
"It's very, very rewarding," Foster said. "I think it's a day when people (carriers) look forward to delivering."
