It doesn't take much to turn a house into a home, just a Finishing Touch.
That's why Jill Thunberg opened a Geneva store by that name at 227 S. Third St. in the Berry House Shops building.
Thunberg transforms rooms and residences by creating arrangements with silk flowers, candles and other decorative items.
"You name it we have it," Thunberg said. "I travel the country and pick them out by hand."
She launched Finishing Touch with florals in the mid-1990s out of her home. She then opened the shop four years ago, expanded her lines of merchandise and added Candles Plus, which also can be found on the Internet.
"The guest list for that got too large and I decided I needed to move the business out of my house," Thunberg said. "It's expanding all the time."
In the fall, she doubled the size of the shop to 2,000 square feet to make room for more merchandise.
Thunberg's creative mind developed through several art classes in college where she received a design degree.
Her shop carries completed arrangements as well as individual branches, vines and candles.
The flowers come in various colors and types, including topiaries, wreaths, swags and vines.
Likewise, the candles come in all shapes and sizes, "from chocolate-scented Hershey's Kisses to stained-glass balls that glow like a stained-glass window and aroma therapy.
Accessories and other decor items include candle holders, from brass to glass to iron and marble, as well as plaster pedestals, candle rings and vases and table bases. A smattering of jewelry, throws and denim jackets fall into the Plus category of the business's name. …
