A LEADERSHIP mentoring scheme bringing together captains of industry and headmasters is helping to improve the performances of schools.
The scheme was launched in January last year to help head teachers tap into the skills of top business managers, and since then more than 250 Welsh heads have been involved.
Under the programme they are given training on the impact leadership can have on raising the quality of education and standards of achievement in schools.
Designed with experienced headteachers in mind, it builds on existing knowledge and expertise to further develop and enhance effective leadership and management skills.
The National Assembly, Business in the Community Cymru, Amersham Plc, Western Power Distribution, HSBC and Coca-Cola Enterprises have all backed the project.
Yesterday Alan Boxford, the head teacher of Llanishen High School, said his partnership with Gerry Stacey at Coca Cola Enterprises had been very useful.
"Increased commercial pressures and the increasing pace of change have posed serious challenges for head teachers, " he said. …
