PARENTS of bright and gifted children are being invited to sign them up for a special summer school at Warwick University in Coventry in July. The academy will initially concentrate on 11 to 16-year-olds, who will study a range of National Curriculum and other subjects.

s MANY parents are struggling to afford their children's school uniform, according to the Family Welfare Association. The organisation said it had seen an 'alarming increase' in the number of applications for financial help, after the cost of the average uniform rose to pounds 157. The association believes that local education authority should give grants to needy families.

A NEW hand-book to guide parents through the law regarding to special education has been published by the Advisory Centre for Education. It coincides with changes to legislation and includes practical advice for parents on meetings with schools, examining a statement, choosing a school and taking an appeal or complaint through the system. …
