Wildlife projects in the Midlands are to benefit as part of a pounds 1.3 million national handout announced today to encourage more people to explore nature on their doorstep. The money has been awarded to local nature reserves to help them develop areas for wildlife and boost visitor numbers as part of English Nature's Wildspace grant scheme.
Local beneficiaries are the RSPB Sandwell Valley Nature reserve in Sandwell, which will receive pounds 78,000, and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, which will be awarded pounds 67,600. The money will be used to establish community liaison officers to promote nature in the two areas.
