She was one of over two million people whose philanthropic efforts snagged national attention last year.
And it was no surprise to Debbie Miller of Public Action to Deliver Shelter, or PADS, of McHenry County that Fabiola Scholnick of McHenry made the cut.
"It was a big undertaking for an individual to coordinate and do this on their own," said Miller, the marketing and development officer for PADS. "We do have people who contact us (for a project), but it's usually a little bit smaller."
Miller is referring to the week-long food drive for PADS launched by Scholnick for Make a Difference Day this past fall .
The McHenry woman is one of 10 volunteers nationwide honored for her contribution to Make A Difference Day in October. Scholnick wins a $10,000 prize with the honor.
Scholnick - along with some help from neighbors, friends and colleagues - gathered more than 50 boxes filled with food and toiletries in her garage.
"I have a two-car garage, and we were not able to put the cars in," Scholnick said.
