Students may qualify for meals

Children may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals at area schools. To qualify for the subsidized meals, household incomes must meet federal requirements or families must already participate in federal aid programs such as food stamps. To apply for free or reduced-price meals, pick up an application at a school office.

Those who have received a notice of eligibility from Adult and Family Services don't need to fill out a form.

Art, science offered by museum

Young artists and scientists can gain hands-on experience in a pair of after-school classes this fall at the University of Oregon Museum of Natural History.

Registration is now under way for "Drawing the Real Thing," made up of two eight-week classes for middle school students who are interested in art and science.

The two classes are "Drawing Critters! Nature Sketching," held Tuesdays from Oct. 1 to Nov. 19, and "Drawing the Past! Drawing Archaeology," meeting Thursday from Oct. 3 to Nov. 21.
