PETER Thorne repaid another slice of the pounds 1.7m City invested in him last year by firing Cardiff back to the top of the Second Division.

He grabbed his fifth goal of the season 20 minutes from time to gun down Mansfield and to follow his double last weekend.

City made one enforced change in their side as former Barnsley man Chris Barker came in for hamstring victim Andy Legg on the left side of midfield.
