Q. I have a concern about the corner of Wheaton Avenue and Wesley Street in downtown Wheaton.
I am here every day and it never fails that many drivers blow off this stop sign.
I have been nearly hit numerous times when I am driving south on Wheaton Avenue at this intersection. I stop, but someone driving west on Wesley doesn't.
I have reported this to the police at the station, but the officer did not seem overly concerned. I have spoken with others who also notice this problem. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to be dealt with before someone is killed or injured.

A. Although you have experienced problems at Wheaton and Wesley, Wheaton Police Deputy Chief Tom Meloni said this intersection has a low accident rate.
Meloni said reports show only one accident occurred here last year, and two accidents were reported in 2002.
"That is one of the intersections that we try to watch," he said. "There are many, many intersections in Wheaton that are controlled by stop signs, and our beat officers make every attempt to enforce those. But they can't be everywhere."
If you still have problems at Wheaton and Wesley, Meloni said you have some recourse.
If a person observes a traffic violation in Wheaton and obtains the license number, police will contact the vehicle owner. An officer will tell the owner a witness saw their violation, even if the witness wants to remain anonymous. …
