A LIAM Kearney goal gave Ireland the Abu Dhabi International title with a 1-0 victory over Under-18 World Cup winners France on Friday.
Korea needed to beat hosts the United Arab Emirates in the second game of the evening but could only draw 0-0, meaning Brian Kerr's boys claimed the overall prize.
It is a terrific achievement for the team as they continue preparations for the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in March.
Kearney opened the scoring after six minutes with a wonder clip over the goalkeeper after Ireland's pressure forced France into a mistake on the edge of their own penalty area, and although Brian Kerr's side had several chances to add a second goal, France had the better of the play.
Manager Kerr was delighted with the result saying: "It was a wonderful disciplined performance.
"Our defence and midfield did magnificent to keep the French out.
"The French team had a lot of changes and they were a lot fresher, but we coped well - it has been a difficult week with three games in five days - but a very worthwhile experience."
It could have not have started any better for Ireland as Liam Kearney opened the scoring with just six minutes on the clock. …
