DELTA AIR LINES PLANS 4TH LAGUARDIA FLIGHT

Delta Air Lines plans to add a fourth daily flight from Jacksonville International Airport to New York's LaGuardia Airport beginning April 13.

Delta, JIA's largest carrier, said its regional carrier, Comair, will operate the 3:05 p.m. flight, scheduled to arrive at LaGuardia at 5:43 p.m.

Delta and its regional carriers currently operate 21 flights a day from JIA.

JACKSONVILLE BANCORP RESULTS CLIMB 46%

Jacksonville Bancorp Inc. reported fourth-quarter earnings of $261,000, or 18 cents a share, up 46 percent from the third quarter. For all of 2002, the 3-year-old company, which operates The Jacksonville Bank, earned $584,000, or 44 cents a share, reversing a loss of $198,000 in 2001.

Jacksonville Bancorp's total assets increased from $86.5 million at the end of 2001 to $130.8 million at the end of 2002.

SHAW COMMUNICATIONS SELLS CABLE UNITS

Shaw Communications Inc. said yesterday it has agreed to sell its Florida and Texas-based cable assets to TWEAN Subsidiary LLC and Cequel III, respectively, for gross proceeds of about $197 million.

TWEAN Subsidiary LLC, which is managed by cable-system company Advance/Newhouse Communications, is buying Shaw's Florida cable systems that serve communities around Tampa and Daytona Beach.

Shaw said the sales represent its continued efforts to sell non-strategic assets.

BEEF, PORK, CHICKEN PRICES EXPECTED TO GO UP

Consumers should expect to pay higher prices for beef at the supermarket this year and slightly more for pork, poultry and eggs as well, an Agriculture Department economist said yesterday.

Shayle Shagan said the price of beef this year likely will surpass the record high price of $3.45 per pound that consumers paid in April 2001, primarily because of the shrinking supply. …
