Perfect Great Racers Plan to Keep Caliguiri Streak Going

The 30th annual Richard S. Caliguiri Great Race is Sept. 30. There are 26 men who have run every one of the 10K events. They are called "Perfect Great Racers." This should be the 31st, but the event was canceled in 2003 because of the city's financial problems.

It resumed the following year, and these individuals plan to keep their streaks alive when they return to the start line of the 6.2- mile race next Sunday along with at least 7,800 who have already registered.

During the past 29 races, the Perfects have combined for a distance of 4,674.8 miles -- like running a relay from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas and back. Each has run 179.8 miles during the past 29 Great Races.

Many of the "Perfect Great Racers" signed the Wall of Fame at the Heinz History Center last month as part of a display honoring the race.

Race director Mike Radley said he is inspired by this unique group of men.

"They have shown they are very durable," said Radley, who will celebrate his 20th year as race director. …
