E One of the stealthiest of car taxes is the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's charge for personalised registration numbers. Last year they sold 188,816 of them and, at a minimum of pounds 250 and with the latest number/letter combinations starting at pounds 499, it confirms our stupidity. I quote from a press release: "Mr and Mrs Dim (not their real name), like many couples across the country, have made their car unique by picking out their initials." Well, here's a news flash: every registration is unique, that's the point. If you want to be different grow watercress on your vinyl roof. It's cheaper too.
