Birmingham City Council is putting on two fireworks events this November. Tonight's event, which includes a funfair, is at Cofton Park, and on Tuesday there's a similar event at Pype Hayes Park. You can get tickets in advance (with a pounds 1 reduction) at the Central Library Ticket Office.

Manchester's new kid on the block as far as weekend family activities are concerned is the recently opened Imperial War Museum North. Every Saturday, and some Sundays too, they run Playshops - hands-on sessions for the over-fives. This Saturday there are art- based activities, tomorrow the activities are drama-based. The museum also offers free activity trails, and from next Tuesday, it's Family History Week (5th-10th Nov, 11am-5pm), where children of all ages can find out more about their family's history during times of war and conflict. …
