Gary Forsee is a new kind of University of Missouri System president. He was chosen for his business acumen, not his experience in the halls of academe. The UM Board of Curators made a conscious choice to find someone with experience running a large organization even if that person came from private industry instead of the traditional background.

They wanted to exploit the university's economic development potential and improve its standing with the General Assembly.
