This is the second posthumous book by Powell to appear' the first being the brief, aphoristic A Writer's Notebook in the year of his death, 2000. It was stuffed with Powell's half-humorous, half- caustic observations and dry wisdom, such as "The strength of the Jews lies in the despair of those who know they will not be left in peace" or "Was Raffles just a kleptomaniac?". The current book, for which Powell had written a characteristic introduction, is in effect a third volume to follow Under Review (1990) and Miscellaneous Verdicts (1991) and consists of a further collection of his book reviews.
