Roundup: Turnovers Cost IUP in Upset Loss

Mercyhurst took advantage of five turnovers Saturday to pull off a 20-16 upset of No. 21 Indiana (Pa.).

IUP dropped to 3-1, 0-1 in the Division II PSAC-West. Mercyhurst improved to 2-2, 1-0 in conference play.

Mercyhurst built a 20-7 lead early in the third quarter on Joe Laffey's 72-yard TD pass to Max Khuri. IUP pulled within 20-14 on Josh Miller's 1-yard score late in the quarter.

Mercyhurst took a safety with 1:51 remaining, and IUP took the ensuing kick and nearly pulled off the comeback. The Crimson Hawks drove to the Mercyhurst 28 before turning the ball over on downs with 40 seconds remaining.

Khuri led Mercyhurst with nine catches for 154 yards and a score. IUP quarterback Andrew Krewatch passed for 260 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted three times.

Edinboro 28, Slippery Rock 24 -- Edinboro (3-1, 1-0) scored the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds to play on Trevor Harris' 24- yard TD pass to Josh Brown and defeated Slippery Rock (3-1, 0-1) in a PSAC-West game. The winning score came one minute after Slippery Rock's SayQuan Scott-Mitchell put his team ahead with an 18-yard touchdown run.

Harris threw for 270 yards and two scores.

California (Pa.) 52, Gannon 10 -- Josh Portis threw three touchdown passes to A.J. Jackson in the first quarter, and Cal (2- 2, 1-0) rolled to a PSAC-West victory over Gannon (2-2, 0-1).

Portis completed 17 of 26 passes for 262 yards and five TDs. Jackson caught eight passes for 119 yards. California held Gannon to 110 total yards.

Clarion 24, Lock Haven 0 -- Alfonso Hoggard rushed for 114 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns as Clarion (2-2, 1-0) shut out Lock Haven (0-3, 0-1) in a PSAC-West game.

Shepherd 40, Seton Hill 27 -- Two long touchdown passes in the first quarter put Seton Hill (1-3, 0-2) in 13-0 hole, and the Griffins couldn't catch up in a West Virginia conference loss at Shepherd (3-1, 2-0).

Seton Hill's DJ Lenehan passed for 229 yards and four touchdowns, two of which went to Tyler Roby. Antwarn Jones had 112 yards rushing.

West Liberty 49, West Virginia Wesleyan 26 -- Zach Amedro passed for 355 yards and four touchdowns, and Kashif Walls caught nine passes for 171 yards and three scores for West Liberty (3-1, 1-0) in its WVIAC win over West Virginia Wesleyan (0-3, 0-2). …
