Student Fashion Designers to Compete at OSU for Advancement to International Competition

Sixty-three student fashion designers will compete Oct. 22-23 at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater for a chance to advance to international competition in Paris.

While segments of the event are free and open to the public, registration and tickets are required for the opening night reception and the fashion show and dinner finale.

The Wes Watkins Center at OSU will serve as the site for receptions, exhibitions, seminars, and a fashion show and dinner associated with the Arts of Fashion Competition 2004. Registration will start at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 with a catered welcoming reception at 7 p.m. featuring gourmet food and wines and four designers from Belgium, France and Argentina. The designers will exhibit their works and discuss them with reception guests.

A dinner and a fashion runway show are scheduled at 7 p.m. Oct. 23. It will feature 63 original designs and professional make-up from Ladan Salon and Day Spa. Ten garments and five accessory designs will be chosen to advance to international competition in Paris on Dec. 16.

The American finals competition is sponsored by the OSU College of Human Environmental Sciences, Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising and the Arts of Fashion Foundation and its partners.

The Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising at OSU provides one of 10 four-year programs with a curriculum approved by the American Apparel and Footwear Association in the United States.

The theme for the fashion finals competition is Sustainability and Fashion, which refers to an environmental harmony in the creation of original designs that build in flexibility of use and remind people to live in harmony with their environment. …
