Gregg Caliguiri has come a long way since delivering Domino's pizzas in California.
The 42-year-old son of the late mayor Richard Caliguiri and three partners -- Matt Turbiner, Marc Hourvitz and Kirk Vogel own four restaurants, Walnut Grill and Shady Grove, in Shadyside and Walnut Grove, with locations in Fox Chapel and Wexford. Caliguiri says working previously at the former Balcony restaurant in Shadyside helped him learn about the business.
Caliguiri opened the Pittsburgh Deli Company in Shadyside in 1993, sold it in 2006. Walnut Grill has been open since 2001. The other three restaurants came later, and the four hope to open a South Hills location in the future. The theme of the establishments is to offer "quality food at a reasonable price," Caliguiri says.
He credits his wife, Edana, his dad, mother Jeanne, and brother David with all of their support of his restaurants as well as having dedicated employees without whom the restaurant business would not be successful. His wife works at Walnut Grill as a server and manager.
